Vilshofen & Passau, Germany

We boarded the ship late in the afternoon in Vilshofen, but didn't sail until the following morning. It gave us time to unpack and become familiar with the ship. That evening was a welcome “OctoberFest” event on the dock, to start meeting the other travelers. There was a lot of beer!

The next morning, Keith started the day with a massage and I got a much needed hair cut. The boat left the dock at 10:45 for a three hour trip up the river to Passau. It passed through beautiful country and our first lock.

We had originally scheduled to do a river bike tour that afternoon that was a bit strenuous. It was almost 100 degrees when we arrived, so we made a change.

Keith decided to join the Passau Castle Hike group instead and I stayed behind to just rest. The heat really got to you after a while. this is the Veste Oberhaus Castle which is 1,253 feet above the Danube.
