Tuscany Region - Day 4
Another road trip into the mountains to the ‘not so hot' springs and Montalcino. Do you get the idea we like being in the mountains…. you'd be right!
Terme di Saturnia was highly recommended for a fun day of rest and relaxation. It was a beautiful place up in the mountains, with plenty of pools and wasn't too crowded. The problem… “how can there be a problem" you ask… it was 95-100 degrees outside. So, even though they were just warm pools, what we really needed was a cool pool. Instead, we laid in the shade for a couple of hours and headed out.
We absolutely love driving the back roads. This is just one picture of many of the beautiful scenery and country side. The cities are busy and crowded, but the country side is open and pristine.
Next stop, Montalcino, another amazing city on the top of a mountain. We were here on our previous trip but it was just a beautiful and magical.
One of the things we enjoy looking for is unique door knockers. Every door is different, as is the knocker. There are so many, you have to be selective or you'd be taking pictures all day of doors and knockers.
Here was another very cool window ornament.
As we travel, we often reminisce of places we have seen before. Two things we both remember are churches, but can't remember where we saw them. We're coming off the mountain and round a corner and Keith nearly jumps out of the car. “There it is" he cries… “that's the church". Just out of no where, we stumbled upon it and he was so excited. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to stop and visit it, but it was so fun to know where it was.
Let me tell you the story of the pheasant. We are at the bottom of our hill (which is 2km of dirt road to the top) and just before we make the turn, we see this beautiful pheasant in the middle of the road. He just stood there, so we stopped and took his picture. What was interesting, my husband didn't make any gunshot sounds. If you know him, you'll know what I mean - he loves to pheasant hunt. But this was very cool…. wait … there's more…
