Tuscany Region - Day 1
Time to leave Venice and this time we took the local water taxi over to the airport. It was a lot cheaper than the private taxi, and it had a lot more people, but it was ok. We chose to rent a car again as it was faster and easier than taking a train down to our next stop in the Tuscan Valley. The trip was a five hour drive and the freeways were very pleasant. Have I said before, Google Maps is our best friend.
We reserved what we thought was a little villa with a pool. This was to be home for seven days as we needed some down time. It also gave us time to tour the Tuscan Valley without hauling suitcases around. The plan was to do day trips, and having a central location would be perfect.
The drive up the mountain was about 1.5 miles on a dirt road. We were a bit unsure on our first trip up…. where was Google taking us… and then… WOW! This was way more than we expected. It turned out to be a compound of villas on the very top of a mountain overlooking gorgeous vineyards and farms below.
There was a main house, shown in the picture above, and then six smaller villas all around the property. Rustic, authentic, just what you would expect a villa to be. It was absolutely stunning.
This was our villa and is actually three levels inside. You enter on the second level, that overlooks the kitchen, living and bathroom area. The upper level is the bedroom.
The top picture is the view from our yard of the gardens and the edge of the Infinity Pool. The lower picture is Keith looking over the edge at our yard and villa.
We enjoyed the first jump in - so refreshing. But then, we had to do some household things, like grocery shopping. So after a cool dip, back down the hill we went into a small town to stock up on some groceries for the week. What a great first day in Tuscany.
