Day 6 - Tuscany Region

A day in Florence …. a big city … a very hot day. We had a good time, but it was a very long day.

Every Sunday, we looked for an English speaking, Christian church wherever we were, and found they were hard to come by. So when we found one in Florence, it was a roadtrip for sure. The worship, the sermon, the atmosphere were all just perfect. We both walked away refreshed and loved it.

Florence is a big city and our focus was on a tour of the Medici Family history. But first, one of our highlights was this wine door. In the early 1300's, the black plague killed 75% of the population. To keep business going and reduce human contact, they built these little doors. You would use the knocker above the door to let them know you were there. They'd open the small door, take your order, and pass the glass of wine through it. There were a number of them still around the town and it was so fun to watch people use them. We had stopped for lunch and didn't realize we were sitting right next to this one, so we got to watch the show for quite some time. It was very fun.

Oddly enough, we didn't take any pcitures of the tour. We had been to Florence before, and were really more interested in the history of the Medici family. Netflix has a series on the Medici's and it was very good. They were wealthy and powerful and it was fascinating to see where all those moments in time actually occured.

At the end of the day, we headed home and jumped in the pool. It was over 100 degrees.

… but wait, guess what was in the road at the bottom of the hill … another pheasant, only this one was a female. She wasn't quite as laid back so we couldn't get a picture before she darted into the tall grass. Hmmm, this is becoming a ‘thing' …. but wait…
