Day 6 - Naxos & Nisos

We left first thing in the morning heading to Naxos, again in high winds and waves. The weather was not our friend and the captain and co-captain got soaked as waves continuously crashed over the bow. Most everyone else stayed down below, out of the waves.

Heading in to Naxos, we did a quick detour to check out the caves. They were very unique.

Several days into the trip, the ladder, off the back of the boat, broke. The charter service sent a replacement via ferry for us to pick up. We made a quick stop at the ferry terminal on our way to Naxos to get it. We anchored the boat just inside the ‘do not cross line' for the ferry. The girls stayed on the boat and the boys went ashore. Craig and Rob had to get on the ferry when it arrived to get the ladder. Keith and George headed to the grocery store in a taxi when the taxi driver took on someone blocking the road and almost got in a fight. The ferry arrived and was aimed straight for our boat as it made the turn and blew its horn. It was so loud, I'm sure our boat moved back 10 feet, just from the sheer force of the sound. We were inside the line so we were safe but it seemed a bit close. These ferries are huge and they make Washington ferries look like tug boats.

We ended our journey that day at the south end of Nisos, tucked into a bay, out of the wind. We wanted a shorter run across the strait to Santarini the next morning as the winds and high waves were beginning to wear on us.

It turned out to be a peaceful night with a yummy dinner and games before everyone headed off to bed.
