Boating Routes

Instead of putting this on each page, here are the routes we took through the islands.

Day 1 was a short trip to Kea Island - approximately 41 nautical miles (nm) and about six hours travel time. It was pretty bumpy with winds out of the north. Everyone had to get their sea-legs in shape.

Day 2 to Mikonos, a 55+ nm trip and took about 8 hours, again in rough seas, with estimated 10 foot waves. The team got the jib up, but it didn't last very long. The lines were all messed up and they couldn't be fixed until we were in calmer water.

Day 4 was a travel day down to Paros and Anti-Paros. The trip was 29+ nm and it only took about 4 hours. Winds were still blowing but we were now in following seas and everyone was grateful for the shorter crossing time.

Day 6 travel from AntiParos to Naxos. The trip was 17 nm and it took about 3+ hours. Again we had high winds with water over the bow. The Captain got soaked.

Day 7 travel from Nisos to Santorini. The trip was 24+nm and took 4 hours. Winds were up while we were crossing but then calmed as we got inside the caldera.

Day 10 we traveled to Milos. This was a very long day, 72+ nm and 10 hours of travel time. The winds were again an issue and it was a challenge.

Day 12 we traveled to Hydra. This was the worst travel day of all. It was 61+ nm and 10+ hours in 30 knot winds with consistent swells of 15-20 feet. For 2+ hours we had swells at 40 feet with 3 seconds between waves. It was brutal.

Day 14 - time to head back to Athens. We saved the best for last as this was the best day. Calm seas and we only had to do 35+ nm, taking 5+ hours. We were all ready to be on land again.
