Korcula, Croatia
The winds had been a bit of a battle off and on, and we were glad we could safely dock in Korcula. This community also had a ‘walled old town’, similar to the others, but this one sat out on a point, surrounded by the sea.
It was time to enjoy a gentle stroll up and down the narrow walkways, exploring. There seemed to be a fun surprise each place we went.
This shop keeper was painting while she waited for customers, and she was very good. We found them to be quite beautiful, but a little too big to ship home.
In the early afternoon, there was a wine tasting at one of the local vineyards, about 20 minutes from town. joining us was Christiana, Miline, Doug, and Bridget. We had a very fun time laughing and telling stories. One thing was for sure, we made sure nothing went to waste.
Just across the harbor was an island with a three mile walking path around it. There was a monestary, as shown in the picture, but it was not open to the public. Doug and Bridget joined us for a beautiful evening stroll, getting to know each other, and hoping to see some wildlife - deer in particular.
Almost at the end of the trail, we found these unusual looking ducks, a momma and plenty of babies. We watched them for several minutes, agreeing this was probably the only wildlife we were going to see.
As we continued around the corner, a little kitty joined us and then, there they were… the deer. We had brought several apples with us to share and they were happy to eat them, as any deer would.
This was the buck with a beautiful rack, and the antlers were still velvety. He was rather small in stature, in comparison to the deer we have at home, but still so handsome. There were about 6-8 of them, and they were happy to share our apples. Thinking we weren't going to see any, I had tossed my apples so they could find them later. Bridget still had hers and had great fun luring them in and having them eat out of her hand. We were so pleased to finally meet and enjoy them.
We called the water taxi to come pick us up and had about 30 minutes to wait, so we enjoyed watching the full moon rise. This arrow is actually an anchor, but stratigically placed, it was pointing out the moon.
As we approached the city, this sunset was gorgeous. It was a perfect exclamation to a perfect evening. After arriving back on land, we enjoyed a lovely dinner overlooking the water and were so glad Doug and Bridget shared it with us.
