Bratislava, Slovakia
Slovakia separated from the Czech Republic in 1992, dissolving the nation of Czechoslovakia.
Like every other country we visited, there were churches, cathedrals, historic buildings, and more. But there were a few fun things we learned.
Look at this fountain, it looks normal and ordinary, but has a funny story. Notice how the bottom portion is tan, then moving up it is white and then grey. Water is coming from the tan portion but also from the white portion.
Many years ago, the local people thought it was indecent to have water coming from the little boys anatomy in the middle section. So they covered them up with fish heads so water was coming out of the mouth of a fish. This was such a strange thing and recently, the community agreed to return it to it's orginal design. But in order to do that, they had to take the fountain apart and rebuild the little boy section. It will need time to age, but today, it stands out like a sore thumb, but the locals agree, it is better than old fish heads.
A bronze sculpture of a workman, taking a rest from working in the sewer. Everyone would stop and rub his head and the color change was noticieable. So a legend was created, if a woman rubs his nose, she can change her husband.
Notice how shiney the nose is now? I rubbed it with both hands. Now I wait to see if it works 🥰.
Notice the small cannon ball on the side of this building. After the war, the government compensated families who's homes had been hit by these balls. This is tiny in comparison to some that hit and competely destroyed buildings. It didn't take long before people realized they could make some money. They started scavenging for these balls and placing them on their houses for money. It worked for a while… This ball actually hit this house right where it is.
“I can pose too, but where do I get that".
