Barricata Beach, Italy
After leaving the cool mountains, we needed some warm beach time. We headed south, to Barricata Beach to a fun, family resort. We pulled in and found a “wild waves” type of resort and were a little unsure if we would get some relaxing time.
Yup, this was our place, a small single wide mobile home. There was over a hundred of these in the park, in fact it looked like a mobile home park and it was. I admit my heart sunk, wondering what had we gotten ourselves into. But we went inside and were pleasantly surprised. It was small and plain, but remodeled, and very comfortable. The walls were as thin as paper and we could hear conversations in the next unit. It didn't bother us… we couldn't understand what they were saying. It turned out to be a very nice stay.
The first afternoon we arrived, we scoped out the beach and it had a ton of chairs and umbrellas, a nice little outdoor food stand/restaurant, but not a single person other than staff. It was windy and deserted. Again, we thought this may be a bust. The next morning, no wind, beautiful sun, time to check out the beach again. There were a few folks moving around and it was very pleasant. The water was warm, the beach was long (great for walking) and we thoroughly enjoyed the restful day.
There was horseback riding, even on the beach. This was the closest we came as this little cutie passed in front of our place.
There was also a huge kids/adults swim area with many water events, hot tubs, snack bars, etc. It truly did look like wild waves but on a bit smaller scale and that's where we found most people hanging out.
