Interesting and Unique Things
We have found several things in Spain that are very cool, or very different from the US.
We saw these all over town, and sometimes on every street. Finally, we realized they were garbage containers. People don't have personal outdoor trash cans, they walk up the block and put their garbage in these huge bins, which are then collected every several days. Amazing! What's also interesting about this, we rarely saw garbage or trash on the sidewalks or streets. This country was very clean.
The Europeans take care of their elderly. Every morning and evening, you'll see the semi and very elderly out walking with their families or caregiver. Often they are walking very slowly, sometimes in wheelchairs, or with canes, but they are outside. They are also all dressed up. For them, this is an outing and they are dressed for the occasion. One morning we passed a lady who had to be close to 100 but her nails were done, her hair was styled and she was dressed to the nines…. out for a walk (in a wheelchair) with her caregiver. It's so beautiful to see.
We also heard you won't find any overweight people in the European countries and that is so true. They are a very healthy society and people.
Guess where we saw this sign? Right - for a bathroom. But what was unique about this, both genders went into the same bathroom, two stalls for men, two stalls for women. And can you tell which one is the woman and/or the man?
This is a bus, but it only holds about 4 people. In the market places, they need something small to transport people in the narrow alleys. We thought this was the cutest thing and there were several of them, all moving around the town center in Aix, France. There were similar ones in Avignon as well.
In France, you are not allowed to honk a horn in town, unless you are in immediate danger. For sure, they don't have this law in other places. It was so quiet, even when just walking around. We liked it!
