Aix, En Provence, France

Aix (pronouced as X) is a large city about 90 minutes drive from Avignon. But there was something special about Aix. It was closer to the Grand Canyon of Verdon in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence Mountains. It was a two hour drive away and there was an E-bike ride along the rim of the canyon. This was our sole reason for this destination and it was so worth it. We started in this little town where we picked up the bikes and took of on the road/trail. It is a 21 km loop around a mountain, that also overlooks the gorge. Elevation was over 3000 feet high.

This was our first stop for a rest and to see the amazing view. The first 9 km's are all uphill so we were glad we had electric bikes to assist. But what was interesting, our bodies were so much more in tune with exercise, it was a pleasant ride. The only thing that hurt at the end of the ride was our buns!

Starting with the top picture, this is a canyon that has a river feeding the lake, in the bottom right picture. And yes, the water is exactly that color. The third picture is of the walls with all the rocks, colors, and beautiful formations. This was a great treat - we loved it! But we had a funny thing happen - we kept hearing a cookoo sound and later learned, there are actually cockcoo birds in the canyon.

We chose to stay off the freeway and take the backroads and enjoy the local scenery. This was one of my favorite view. This road comes in/out of a small town and for 2+ miles, it is lined with these amazing Platane trees (pronounced Pla tahn).
